ELTIF 2.0 is the common name for Regulation (EU) 2023/606, which amended the original ELTIF Regulation (EU) 2015/760 and has applied since 10 January 2024.
Why it matters
The reform opened European long-term investment funds to a wider group of investors. It removed the initial minimum investment of EUR 10 000 for retail investors, dropped the requirement that each real asset be worth at least EUR 10 000 000 and set the borrowing limit at 50 % of net asset value for funds that can be offered to retail investors. Distribution to retail investors still requires a suitability assessment.
What to watch for
Easier access does not change the nature of the product. An ELTIF remains a long-term, largely illiquid investment, and redemptions before the end of its life are possible only under strict conditions. See what changed in ELTIF 2.0 and how ELTIF liquidity works.
