A prospectus is the main legal disclosure document of a fund. It describes the investment strategy, risks, costs, redemption rules, the manager, the depositary and other key terms.
Why it matters
The KID gives a short summary, but the prospectus contains the full detail. For an ELTIF, it is where you find the fund's life, any minimum holding period, the redemption and matching policy, the use of borrowing and the treatment of conflicts of interest. Transfers of units must also follow the rules and the prospectus.
What to watch for
Prospectuses are long, so read them with a checklist: the end date, exit options, all cost items, valuation frequency and the risk section. If something is unclear, ask the distributor in writing. See which ELTIF documents to read and fund rules.
